REFERENCE MATERIALS: Let me start things off here with a request. I'd like this page to be of some use to SOMEONE, so let's start with a couple of links I've found for digging up reference material for building. AND let me request that if you have any more, forward them to me and I'll list them here for everyone to use.
One note of caution, I have no set building style so the links I list here may be a little disjointed. For instance, a few of my current research/build projects are '48 and '64 Indy Novis, a '52 Hudson, and an odd desire to build one of each year Vette up through '72 or so when American manufacturers stopped producing real automobiles.
If you're into building outside the shelf available norm, you know that good reference materials can make as much difference as building skill. A few examples of easy conversions with the right info are 66-67 Nova's, 49-52 Chevy's, (as well as other GM's of the same time frame), early Chevy II's, ... the list could go on forever. Detroit had a habit for years of merely changing grilles/ headlights/ taillights/ trim to update from one year to the next.A good set of photos can pretty much set you on your way to building something you can never buy and that's what advancing your building skills and enjoyment is all about.
A word of caution, however. While there are a good many builders who thoroughly enjoy building with nearly superhuman accuracy and detail, there are just as many who will forgive that scale 1/2" inaccuracy if the over all build is visually and asthetically true to the 1:1 vehicle. In other words, don't make yourself crazy! If your built ends up looking exactly like the '63 Widget Deluxe Drophead you're duplicating but the windshield wipers are a scale 1/16" too short, don't fall on your sword.
And now, here's a couple of links. Again, I'm digging for more and I'd welcome your input!
